HOLE BY HOLE PLAYING TIPS
Hole One
A nice starting hole! It's a soft dogleg left par four. From the tee, the green is in line with the water tower in the horizon. A 220-yard tee shot will leave you a downhill 130-yard shot to an inviting green.
Hole Two
Another slightly downhill par four. Aim your tee shot at the bass-filled lake. It's almost 300 yards away, so driver should be fine. From the fairway, play away from the lake, as the side of the green is sloped toward doom.
Hole Three
Time to let it fly! This 501-yard par five welcomes your challenge. The left bunker is 250 yards away, but the right bunker is 280 out. Split the two and choose the value of risk versus reward.
Hole Four
After your photo of this beautiful par three, gather your nerves for an all or nothing tee shot. This was our first hole to be aced, with an old trusty four iron. Hit the green and be proud. Miss the green and good luck with all that!
Hole Five
Possibly the most difficult par four on the front side, this nearly 400 yards, over-the-hump, hole requires a premium tee shot and an accurate approach. Stay focused as you attempt to get up and down near the green.
Hole Six
As Arthur Hills said, "Finally an easy hole!" A mid-iron to the middle of the green and you are set for par.
Hole Seven
A dastardly dogleg left par four allures you with its lack of length. Don't think of cutting the corner, as lack of length will cut off your angle to the green. Hit your tee shot straight ahead, then negotiate the shallow elevated green. Too short on your approach and Sloan Creek will digest your ball.
Hole Eight
Time to get aggressive again! The left bunker is only 230 yards away, but the "optical illusion" right bunker is nearly 350 from the tee. Let it rip down the right center. A 250-yard drive will leave you 185 to the cross bunker. You have three options: Go for the green, go straight over the cross bunker, or lay back of it. All three options involve the lone tree on your next shot.
Hole Nine
Back up the hill you go! This uphill par four seems a long way away, but a good tee shot down the left center will give you a good view of the deep green and your next stop, ice cold refreshments! Avoid the greenside bunker it's long and deep!
Hole Ten
While enjoying your hot dog, enjoy the view of Fairview, Allen and McKinney. An invisible Fairview bunker is only 180 from the tee. The big tree guarding the green is 285 yards away. Simply hit a 220-yard shot down the left center of the fairway and hope for the best.
Hole Eleven
Be glad you're in a golf cart as you play this uphill, 500 plus yards, par five. Since the space shuttle could land on this fairway, your ball can too! Aim right of the left tree line and don't hold back. The green is well guarded by bunkers and moguls, so a lay up is a smart play.
Hole Twelve
This is the hole you wondered about when you drove through the main gate. Doesn't look so easy, now! Beware of a very shallow green and stay clear of the deep pond. Play to front yardage to have hope of holding this 30 yards deep green.
Hole Thirteen
Prepare to receive your whipping! If you can tame this monster par four, you are to be congratulated! Almost 425 yards await your shots! Aim well left of the fairway bunkers, and let it rip! A good tee shot is only half the task. Play to front yardage, regardless of the hole location, to hold this firm, small green.
Hole Fourteen
Probably the easiest of the par fours on the backside, it's still no cakewalk. Keep the tee shot left of the lake and you'll have a short iron to the green.
Hole Fifteen
Remember Hole One? This is about thirty yards shorter with a similar shape. Despite the look, keep your tee shot right of the fairway bunkers. If you are a long ball hitter, carry the bunkers and hope for a good bounce. You'll be able to see the green in a few moments.
Hole Sixteen
Just hope you have film left in your camera! This beautiful hole will make you feel as if you are in the hill country! And you are - Fairview hill country! With the natural limestone waterfall framing the left and the tee boxes cut into the hill, the tiny green awaits your best effort. Try to carry the bunker and the ball will settle nicely.
Hole Seventeen
As confusing as this tee shot appears, all you have to do is aim down the left side, miss the big tree, stay left of the right bunker that is 200 yards away, stay short of the left bunker that is 280 away, and you'll be off to a great start. After that, you'll have to make an important decision. For an aggressive play, blast away at the green, but stay left of the ball-gobbling trees. If conservative, lay back a bit so you can carry the big tree that guards the green.
Hole Eighteen
The end is near! All you have to do is finish in fine fashion on the dogleg left par four. Stay right of the left fairway bunker and take it deep! The right bunker is 270 from the tee, so it can come into play. For your second, you must be precise, as five greenside bunkers are lurking.
